EVLY introduces tag free charging

Tofte 24.01.25 EVLY AS recognizes the growing demand for smarter, more user-friendly solutions to identify and authenticate charging sessions for electric vehicles. Managing related financial transactions is also a challenge, one that is likely to intensify as V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) technology becomes more prevalent.

To address these needs, we are developing TAGLESS™, a solution designed to offer EV users a seamless charging experience without the reliance on RFID tags, apps, or complex payment systems.

Similar to "Plug-and-Charge" solutions available at some fast chargers, TAGLESS™ delivers comparable functionality for home and destination chargers—without requiring expensive hardware components.

Our approach stands out because it leverages existing hardware within both the vehicle and the charger, resulting in a more cost-efficient solution. This purely software-based technology automatically identifies the EV at the start of a charging session using the standardized control pilot signal. Upon initiating the session, a random charging signal is sent to the vehicle, which responds by charging at the specified current. This process is repeated multiple times to generate a unique identification.

The vehicle’s identity is then validated through a backend system, which either halts the charging session if the vehicle is unregistered or allows charging to proceed at full speed once authenticated. A sophisticated mathematical model underpins this highly secure and efficient authentication process.

TAGLESS™ is patent-pending, and the patent application is currently under review.
